Eravikulam National Park

The top of the Annamalai range is the home to dense forests and grasslands and this is the very area that forms the Eravikulam National Park. The park is rather nascent as it was established only in 1978 and is home to the largest population of the beautiful Nilgiri Tahr. It was declared a national park to protect the endangered Nilgiri Tahr which, it was feared, was on the brink of extinction then. On this count, the Eravikulam National Park is a success story for the recovery in the population of this species is remarkable.

It is located in the Idukki district of Kerala within the Devikulam Taluk. The beautiful hill station Munnar is only 15 km away from here. The lush green landscape of the park encompasses undulating hills and grassy hillocks within itself which is a treat for the nature lovers. The natural forests of the region are known as the Sholas and there are several characteristic patches of the Sholas complete with their flora and fauna for you to observe.
